Oedipus Today, S. Zucconi

Has the Oedipus Complex perhaps lost the "stellar" position in which Freud placed it inasmuch as post-Freudian psychoanalysis has removed the barycentre from oedipal to pre-oedipal levels of development?

In attempting to reply to this question, the author enters into deep discussion with two of the most eminent exponents of American psychoanalysis - Hans W. Loewald and Thomas Ogden. These two authors, while reformulating and resignifying the oedipal triangularity and starting from different theoretical premises, demonstrate how the increased comprehension of the pre-oedipal phases, rather than representing a devaluation of the Oedipus Complex, in fact contributes to its better understanding.
