Sublimation: a concept theoretically trooblesome and clinically ambiguous.
Simona Argentieri
SUMMARY
The author discusses the concept of sublimation - a concept that she considers to be theoretically troublesome and technically ambiguous. A review of the literature shows that the concept of sublimation is used in quite a flexible way by attributing to it the meaning of a specific mechanism concerned with the fate of immature drives, as well as that of a mechanism that contributes to the development of the psychic apparatus.
